BTT (6)

Booking Through Thursday is weekly meme hosted by the Booking Through Thursday site.  It's a fun meme that proposes a weekly question for you to ponder.  And you are more than welcome to use the picture I made!  Just give me some credit :)

Do you find yourself thinking that the books you read would be good on film? Do you wish the things you watched on TV or in the movies were available as book?
Hmmmm.  It seems like almost everything now has either been turned into a movie or TV series.  Everything has a book origin.  I just found out in my creative writing class Tuesday night that Shrek was a book!  A book!  And now there are like, 70 bajillion movies and etc.

I think a book that I've read that I seriously want a movie of is The Iron Fey series.  Mostly cause it's my favorite series that hasn't yet been turned into something.  I think that there could also be a hit TV series based after The Iron Knight (and maybe even Iron's Prophecy).  Just make all the 4 movies then lead on with a TV series about, you know, their lives. And stuff.
(Speaking of The Iron Fey, The Iron Legends is out! So, go get it! I'm picking mine up after work!)

If I really like a book, I want it to become a movie.  But I am often disappointed by the movie (except for The Hunger Games.  It was incredible!)  So, usually I'm content not having a movie, excited for an upcoming one, and stewing about ones that just didn't get it right.

This week there are 2 questions:

What was your most emotional read?
Oh, gosh.  Well, honestly there's only been a few books that I've truly broken down while reading.  I'm tell you, all my answers relate back to Twilight, but seriously, reading Breaking Dawn at the end, I had tears rolling down my face.  Also, I cried like a baby when I read the end of The Iron Queen.  Unless I am really attached to the characters that I'm reading about, I don't find myself getting emotionally involved in a book.  OH!  The end of Delirium.  Another one where I couldn't stop crying.

And I just remembered.  My top emotional breakdown of all time while reading:
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
If you've read the book, I'm sure you know which part I absolutely bawled my eyes out at.  I went back and read that part like 5 times, and then I went back and read Prisoner of Azkaban about 7 times in a row.
Worst. Feeling. Ever.

Booking Through Thursday is weekly meme hosted by the Booking Through Thursday site.  It's a fun meme that proposes a weekly question for you to ponder.  And you are more than welcome to use the picture I made!  Just give me some credit :)
This week there are 2 questions:

Name a book you love in a genre you normally don’t care for. What made you decide to read it? Did it make you want to try more in that genre?
As bad as this is, I used to shy away from Classics.  I know, I know, it's terrible.  But I couldn't get into them.  There I was, a claimed avid book reader and I didn't like reading the classics.  But back in AP Literature in High School, we had to read a bunch of classics.  Most of the books I stuck to skimming through, but A Prayer For Owen Meany was my all-time favorite book that I read in school.  And I read it all the way through, word for word.  And since then I have opened up to reading more of the classics!

What genre do you avoid reading and why?
I usually tend to avoid reading adult books.  Specifically non-fiction and fiction.  Okay I guess that's all of them.  I hardly EVER read non-fiction.  I just can't get into it.  I don't usually like the whole,
based-on-a-true-story thing when reading.  Movies?  Sure.  Books?  Nada.  I can't find myself connecting with the adult genre.  As I am still a teenager myself, I find it better to relate to the YA genre and not the adult genre.  Adults have problems like mortgages and who they're going to marry and how they are going to handle the kids in the divorce.  Teens have to deal with doing their homework, keeping up their social life, falling in love, etc.  I do like mysteries and thrillers though, and the best ones of those are adult novels, but otherwise I tend to stay away.

Booking Through Thursday is weekly meme hosted by the Booking Through Thursday site.  It's a fun meme that proposes a weekly question for you to ponder.
This week there are 2 questions:

Overall, what factor most influences your choice of your next read?
I wish I could say that my reading choices have some kind of system, but they don't.  At all.  Besides the fact that if I'm in the middle of a series, I'm going to read all the books that are out in a straight row, but other than that it's whatever I pick up at the bookstore or I grab from the library.  I have so many physical books and Nook books that I have still yet to read.  It's terrible.

What is it that makes you want to read a book by an author you have never read before?
Okay this is going to sound terrible, and I shouldn't even do this as a dedicated reader and book blogger, but I look at the cover.  I know, I know.  Never judge a book by the cover.  But, honestly, who doesn't walk down the aisle of the bookstore and are more likely to have a book with a really awesome cover pop out at them before a book with a really crappy cover?  And yes, I will read books with crappy covers on them, but if I'm picking up a book at random on the spot, I'm looking at the cover first, then the synopsis.  If it sounds like something I'm interested in, I'm all over it.  If not, it goes back down.  I usually check GR reviews too!

Booking Through Thursday (2)

Booking Through Thursday is weekly meme hosted by the Booking Through Thursday site.  It's a fun meme that proposes a weekly question for you to ponder.
This week's question is:
Series or Stand-alone?

How can you honestly make me pick?! But in all seriousness, though a good stand-alone novel is perfectly fine on its own, I'd be lying if I said I didn't love me some series. Depending on how attached I get to the characters in a novel depends on how much I'm anticipating the next book, and how excited or disappointed I am for the last book to come out. For instance, Iron's Prophecy, With All My Soul, and Requiem are all series finales that are coming out between September of this year and April of next year. I'm so upset that they are the series finales. I LOVE all of these series, listed in order: The Iron Fey Series, The Soul Screamers Series, and The Delirium Series. Three of my all time favorite series. Ending. Though, there is going to be an Iron Fey spin-off series staring Ethan, Meghan's not so little anymore brother, called The Lost Prince (The Iron Fey: Call of the Forgotten, #1). I really hope there will be some cameo's from some certain characters (Ash and Puck please!!!)

But, if I don't get too attached to the characters and all my questions are resolved at the end of a stand-alone then I'm happy with it. One of all-time favorite stand-alone is called Before I Fall by the wonderful Lauren Oliver. I didn't get too overly attached to the characters, the story-line was amazing, and there was a resolution that answered my burning questions.

One stand-alone I WISH had turned into a series was Megan Meade's Guide to the McGowan Boys. I got so overly attached to the character and the story-line was one I couldn't tear myself away from, and the end left me with more questions than I had in the middle of the book! This is one instance where I loathe stand-alone novels!

What about you? Are you one for a quick story or one that lasts throughout many books?

Booking Through Thursday (1)

Alright so I'm taking a break from the whole STGRB drama and posting a first for a book blogging meme called Booking Through Thursday.

Basically a question is raised and you answer it!

So the question this week is:

What book(s) have you read that you’re secretly ashamed to admit?

Well.  There are a few.

But I'll have to go with.....

Twilight of course.  Now don't get me wrong, Twilight really isn't all that bad. I've read worse.  It's just so taboo right now that I hate to even bring it up really.  But I do go see the movies at midnight or at least soon after they are released, I own all the books, including 2 copies of Breaking Dawn and a special edition copy of Twilight.  I have read all the books about 5x each, one of the only books I've actually re-read.  I got my mom, my gmaw and multiple other people hooked on these books.  I started reading them during a time in high school when I was feeling pretty depressed and nothing could really get me out of the mood except Twilight.  I listened to music by The Mitch Hansen Band constantly.  I wouldn't go hang out with my friends.  I didn't want to leave the house.  I didn't watch TV.  I hardly talked to my family.  I had a blog on Xanga at the time and literally all I talked about was Twilight.  I think I still know what the blog name is but I'm not going to give you the link because I want to save myself from further embarrassment.  It was a dark time in my life and I sincerely hope to never get that way again.  And I'm not talking about reading Twilight.  I'm talking about the depressed state I was in.  While I love to read, you have to do other things beside read.  Like eat, socialize, sleep, shower, work, study, etc.

So that's my Booking Through Thursday.  What about you guys?  Any books your ashamed you've read?
