Caribbean Cruising

So, I know. My last blog was forever ago. It's my senior year. I was busy. Give me a break!
ANYWAY
For this most anticipated new post I'm going to reviewing a new favorite of mine:

Book:
Caribbean Cruising by Rachel Hawthorne

Would I recommend it?
YES! Very much so!

Synopsis:

The perfect summer story of a girl, several boys, and a cruise ship full of possibilities.

Lindsay has never been on a cruise, but she knows exactly what she wants to do now that she is: climb a waterfall, snorkel, meet lots of cute guys, and look for one perfect guy for a summer fling.

But her to-do list isn't going according to plan, especially when she discovers that it's impossible to have a fling-when you're actually falling in love.

Straight off the back of the book:
Hi Brooke! I'm going snorkeling with Ryan today, wanna come? I know what you're going to say, but he's just a friend, I swear! So when you finally get out of bed, come find me at the spa. Getting another massage
xo Lindsay

Cover:

(Text on the front: A SHIP FULL OF CUTE BOYS...WHAT'S A GIRL GOT TO LOSE?)
So, I really like this cover. I think it's super cute. The colors draw your eye. The pink and white writing really pop on the royal purple background, and the cruise ship, of course, is a must! The trail from the boat making a hear is super cute too. Overall it's a very well designed cover.

Review:
DANGER! WARNING! DO NOT READ AHEAD IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK OR DON'T CARE IF IT IS RUINED FOR YOU BEFORE YOU READ IT! IN OTHER WORDS, WHETHER YOU READ THIS SECTION OR NOT, READ THE BOOK!! ANYWAY JUST SKIP THIS PART AND GO ON TO THE NEXT SECTION AS TO NOT RUIN THE BOOK!

Ok. So. Let's start out by saying that the obvious heat between Ryan and Lindsay is just, yum, to die for. The way Rachel writes this really brings you into the story. The naivety of Lindsay concerning Ryan's feelings is baffling. To me it was completely obvious from the beginning. And while she wants to have her week of wild, no inhibitions fun, she can't help but feel something for Ryan as well. The many incidents with the various boys she meets makes for an entertaining plot line while leading up to the ultimate prize: the one romantic, sexual evening with one Ryan McKenna. Oh how I wished that my senior trip was a cruise after reading this one!

Favorite Quotes:
"How would you like to go to Hell?"
-Ryan

"Ryan, this is the last thing on my list."
"What is?"
As my eyes drifted closed, i murmured, "Sleeping with a guy."
-Lindsay & Ryan

Jake shifted his gaze to Ryan. "It's all about good times, man. You can understand that."
"I understand that when we dock tomorrow, you better resign, walk off the ship, and not walk back on it. Or I will tell Mr, Hunt."
If looks could kill, I thought the glare Jake gave Ryan could have stopped his his heart.
-Jake & Ryan

"Lindsay, I've never baby-sat in my life, and I'm certainly not going to do it on a cruise."
"But you said-"
"So what am I going to do? Tell a chick who's looking for someone to become a check mark on her to do list that I'm haging around her and her newfound friends because I think she's cute?"
My hear did a hard slam against my ribs.
"You think I'm cute?"
"From the minute I saw you. But I don't want to be a check mark. Task completed. Move on to the next one."
-Ryan & Lindsay

"I know. I didn't figure Walter would appreciate the direction my thoughts were going in when it came to his new stepdaughter. He brought me on this cruise to be a traveling buddy, someone to keep you from being alone...not someone to get you into the sack."
I found it difficult to breathe.
"So you thought about getting me into the sack?"
"Oh yeah."
Ryan & Lindsay

"I was experimenting, testing the waters. Looking for Mr. Right."
"And he was right next door, all along."
I scoffed. "Ha! You wish."
"Yeah, I did," he said quietly.
-Ryan & Lindsay

Pride and Prejudice!

So we read this in AP Lit. It was my first Jane Austen novel so I feel the need to review it :D

Book:

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Would I recommend it?
YES! Very much so!

Synopsis:
Upon the commencement Pride and Prejudice the reader is introduced to Mrs Bennet, a strong woman who knows her own mind. Mr and Mrs Bennet have five daughters: Elizabeth (also called Lizzy) Jane, Mary, Lydia and Kitty. Mrs Bennet is eager to see them all married to wealthy gentlemen who are suitably placed socially.

It seems as if Mrs Bennet’s luck is in when the wealthy and eligible Mr Bingley moves into a neighbouring estate. Bingley is accompanied with his friend Mr Darcy, who is similarly affluent and available.
Mr Darcy, however, does not make a very good impression. He appears haughty, pig-headed and prideful. Elizabeth takes a particularly strong dislike to Darcy when she overhears him saying to Bingley that there is not a “….woman in the room, whom it would not be a punishment to me to stand up with.”
The feelings of animosity seem to be reciprocated and Darcy becomes an even more dislikeable character when he says of Elizabeth, “She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me; and I am in no humour at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men.”
Destiny throws Darcy and Elizabeth together again, as they repeatedly meet at several occasions and functions. At first, neither seems to be able to look beyond first impressions, but it soon becomes clear that a strong affection is growing between the pair. However, the big question is: Can either of them swallow their pride and admit that they were wrong?

Cover:

So this is actually a first edition copy of the book. Which is pretty awesome. Not much really to comment on since it's old and stuff. It's just the original.

Review:
DANGER!

So this book is pretty awesome. It's a classic love tale, you really just can't beat it. So far it's the only of Austen's books that I have read, but I definitely love her style of writing. It's obvious by the way she writes that she likes Elizabeth, as do I. I must say though that I wasn't sure about Darcy while reading. It wasn't until he sent the letter to Elizabeth that I really started to like him. Then after that I was in love! The humor tied in is hard to read at times for some but if you get into it you can read between the lines and laugh out loud. I know I did! Elizabeth and Darcy's love story is one that everyone should experience. To be able to believe in the unconditional love that they share, should make anyone happy. And if you disagree then please say so. Oh, and Mr. Collins. Though I think he's a pompous freak, I still love. Definitely one of my favorite characters, though Darcy is my number one favorite.
Overall this book is truly amazing and you should definitely read and if you have then good for you!

Famous Quotes:
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
Pride and Prejudice
Opening sentence of novel, Chapter 1.

She is tolerable, I suppose, but not handsome enough to tempt me; I am in no humour at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men. You had better return to your partner and enjoy her smiles, for you are wasting your time with me.
Pride and Prejudice
Mr. Darcy to Mr. Bingley about Elizabeth Bennet, Chapter 3.

I have been a selfish being all my life, in practice, though not in principle. As a child I was taught what was right, but I was not taught to correct my temper. I was given good principles, but left to follow them in pride and conceit. Unfortunately an only son (for many years an only child), I was spoilt by my parents, who, though good themselves (my father, particularly, all that was benevolent and amiable), allowed, encouraged, almost taught me to be selfish and overbearing; to care for none beyond my own family circle; to think meanly of all the rest of the world; to wish at least to think meanly of their sense and worth compared with my own. Such I was, from eight to eight and twenty; and such I might still have been but for you, dearest, loveliest Elizabeth! What do I not owe you! You taught me a lesson, hard indeed at first, but most advantageous. By you, I was properly humbled. I came to you without a doubt of my reception. You showed me how insufficient were all my pretensions to please a woman worthy of being pleased.
Pride and Prejudice
Darcy to Elizabeth, Chapter 58.

Owen Meany

So I'm doing a thesis paper on Owen Meany so I decided to do my first official book review on it!

Book:
A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving

Synopsis:
John Irving's
A Prayer for Owen Meany, published by Ballantine in 1989, is a long, sprawling novel in the tradition of Charles Dickens and other nineteenth-century novelists. John Wheelwright, a former American who is now a Canadian citizen living in Toronto, tells the story. John recalls growing up in a small town in New Hampshire with a very unusual best friend, a tiny boy with a high voice named Owen Meany. Despite his strange appearance and voice, Owen is a boy with a strong personality, intellectual gifts, and an air of authority that enables him to take charge of a situation. Owen also possesses a strong religious faith and an uncanny knowledge of future events in his life—including the exact time and circumstances of his own tragic but heroic death. It is through Owen Meany that John becomes a religious believer.

So, first off. If you have read this book, you will understand the amazingness of this cover. At first i thought it was a rat. But when I realized that it was, in fact, an armadillo, the awesomeness of this whole thing just hit me. Like I said, if you have read it, you will understand. If not, then go out and read this book and you will!

Review:
DANGER! WARNING! DO NOT READ AHEAD IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK OR DON'T CARE IF IT IS RUINED FOR YOU BEFORE YOU READ IT! IN OTHER WORDS, WHETHER YOU READ THIS SECTION OR NOT, READ THE BOOK!!

So this is my review of this book. This book made me truly believe in fate. Even though this is a purely fictional piece of literature it touches you in ways thought impossible. I was required to read this book for AP Lit and it was incredible. By far the best book I have read in the class yet. The realization you come to at the end when everything finally comes together at Owen's death scene is one of incredible proportions. Owen's death proves all of his beliefs, and further causes Johnny to reevaluate his beliefs and fate.
This book is just great. It is positively amazing. John Irving is an incredible author, and I suggest that EVERYONE read this book.

Music:
So here are some songs that I think would go AWESOMELY with this book:
Fate: Bleak Ft. Ana Johnson
Lagwagon: Owen Meany
Goodbye Sky Harbor: Jimmy Eat World
Hero: Mariah Carey
Wind Beneath My Wings: Bette Midler

So this is my review :]
